Jon Courson founded the Applegate Christian Fellowship in Southern Oregon. What started as a home fellowship of a few is now the home church for over 10,000 people. In 2002, he left Oregon to assist pastor Chuck Smith at the 25,000-member Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, California.

Jon Courson's commentary is one of my favorite sermon and devotional resources. He has a remarkable ability to make the Old Testament come alive by consistently connecting it to New Testament themes, prophecy, and fulfillment in Christ. No commentary is perfect, and there are a few places where I see things differently than Jon. Even so, the strengths of this work far outweigh those few disagreements. I appreciate his ability to draw practical life lessons from Old Testament people and events, making Scripture understandable and personally applicable. His teaching generally aligns with the theological perspective of Calvary Chapel churches with a strong commitment to the authority of Scripture. Over the years, I've incorporated many of his illustrations and insights into my own sermons, and they have been a tremendous blessing. Beyond his teaching, Jon's personal testimony has also been impactful. He has endured unimaginable tragedy, including the loss of multiple immediate family members, yet he has continued to trust the Lord with humility and faith. The way he has walked through suffering has been a powerful example to countless believers. I'm deeply grateful for Jon's faithful ministry and his significant contribution to the body of Christ. His commentary has encouraged me spiritually, enriched my study of God's Word, and strengthened my teaching ministry.

This is by far the most allegorical interpretation of scripture I have ever read. I am always amazed at what Courson manages to make scripture say. The 5 porches at the pool of Bethesda represent the law, and he just goes off from there. Whenever I want some far out strange view of a passage, I open these up so I can shake my head. I truly don't understand all the good reviews. People make passages say anything they want, and Courson is a master at doing just that.

I do like how he expresses himself. I found one issue with his thinking so far. But not a big issue. It all depends on the Dictionary he used to define the word.Robert W Gunn

John’s commentary I truly believe are spirit filled, an encouragement and an eye opener I did the Bible in a year and having this was truly incredible learning and encouragement and understanding. I’d encourage anyone who is a Christian and wants to gain a deeper depth of the word to buy these.Loren Barton
