On the Trinity and Other Works

St. Hilary of Poitiers, a pivotal fourth-century bishop and theologian, ardently defended Nicene Christianity during a time of intense doctrinal conflict, particularly against Arianism. His works, notably On the Trinity and On the Councils, provide a rigorous biblical and theological response to the competing creeds and controversies surrounding the divinity of Christ and the doctrine of the Trinity. Hilary’s Christ-centered interpretation of Scripture, including his readings of the Psalms, underscores both Christ’s true humanity and his eternal divine nature, affirming the orthodox confession against anti-Nicene challenges. Exiled for his steadfast opposition to heterodox views, Hilary’s engagement with Eastern theological debates deepened his insights and enriched his writings.
