“The Greeks identified four chief or cardinal virtues: prudence, justice, courage, and temperance. Prudence is practical wisdom—that is, wisdom (not to be confused with intelligence or information) that leads to good choices and results in successful living. Justice centers on acts of fairness and honesty and the rule of law. Courage, also called fortitude, gives one the capacity to do what is right or necessary even in the face of adversity. And temperance is self-discipline, the ability to control one’s impulses to do things that are gratifying in the short run but harmful in the long.” (Page 11)

“or other issues is how we reconcile ethical dilemmas while holding true to the Word of God” (Page 10)

“Level two might best be described as defining what I think is important to accomplish” (Page 19)

“When the clergy were asked, ‘Would you grant the man a divorce on the ground of adultery?’ all twenty in the class answered yes. Even though they understood the extenuating circumstances, the fact remained that the wife’s behavior was immoral.14 Those who interpret life through Kant’s principle, with no room for grace, will waste little time agonizing over personal dilemmas in making decisions but will spend a lot of energy persuading those who see things from a different perspective.” (Pages 23–24)

“It takes a great deal of energy and a lot of self-confidence to tackle a dragon. But I am convinced if we desire our people to grow beyond troublemakers or mere babies in Christ then we need to help them digest solid food that nourishes them.” (Page 87)
