Overview

Each of us has experienced bad days, and these bad days are often compounded by our focus on the "badness" of the situation. But Dr. Jack Hayford contends that, "in such times the Lord calls us to hear His voice." And so, beginning with seven phrases uttered by Jesus on the cross, he constructs the model for godly behavior while enduring hardship. Insights include:

  • Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. To forgive those seeking to injure you is to remove yourself from their control.
  • My God, my God, why have you forsaken Me? We can ask God the hard questions.
  • Into Your hands I commit My spirit. Surrender your suffering to God and let go.

How to Live Through a Bad Day is ideal for anyone who has experienced stress, pain, weariness, or an assault of character. Jack Hayford speaks the words of Jesus -- the words of life that sustain and encourage us to live through our worst days.

Top Highlights

“To live through a bad day, begin by forgiving everyone who seems to be trying to ruin your life.” (Page 2)

“Forgive everyone—anyone—whom you think has failed you, hurt you, offended you. If you think he has done anything to ruin your life, ruin your day, ruin your opportunities, ruin your dreams, or block your goals, forgive him. Forgiving others is the key to living in the liberty of the freeing forgiveness Jesus has given us, and it’s the first step toward living through a bad day, not to mention opening the door to new days unimagined.” (Pages 12–13)

“Here it is: Jesus’ plea for a drink is a reminder that no one is so in control, so spiritual, so self-sufficient, that he can make it through a bad day without people to help him.” (Page 49)

“But finite minds and feeble flesh can never satisfy us with the Presence we seek, for we truly cry for God Himself, not answers.” (Page 41)

“It’s the price of listening to His answers and deciding whether or not to submit to His way rather than your own.” (Page 46)
