Samuel Wilberforce (1805–1873) was a bishop in the Church of England who is most famous for his part in the debate against Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. He was lord bishop of Oxford, bishop of Winchester, and a fellow of the Royal Society. Among other works, he wrote Heroes of Hebrew History, numerous volumes of sermons, and contributed to Good Words.
