1 Kings teaches us about God’s sovereign plan and the consequences of disobedience. It picks up where 2 Samuel left off, beginning with King David’s death and chronicling the reign of King Solomon. Solomon’s unfaithfulness to God results in the division of the northern and southern kingdoms. After his death, Israel has twenty kings—only eight of whom are good.
