Excerpt: "When the church was young the Apostle Peter informed his hearers, “Repent, and be baptized” (see Acts 2:38). Thus baptism is the completion of the penitent’s experience. Baptism is a ceremony of symbolic washing carried out when one accepts the Christian faith. Christian churches have used this ceremony since the days when Christ told his disciples, “Go forth therefore and make all nations my disciples; baptize men everywhere in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19-20, The New English Bible)."
