Overview

How can the task of biblical exegesis be fruitful and meaningful when commentaries and lexicons provide contradictory interpretations and seem to support opposing translations? The 32-volume Exegetical Summaries Series asks important exegetical and interpretive questions, while summarizing and organizing the content from every major Bible commentary and dozens of lexicons. With this collection you can instantly identify exegetical challenges, discover a text’s interpretive history, and survey the scope of everything written about each verse and phrase. Since no single commentary provides all the answers needed for translation, exegesis, and interpretation, the Exegetical Summaries Series serves as a valuable supplement, and study tool. This expansive collection gives you the tools you need to swiftly compare commentaries and lexicons, identifying instances of both scholarly consensus and disagreement.

  • Phrase by phrase analysis
  • Summary of lexical entries for nearly every word
  • Comprehensive commentary comparisons
  • New Testament scholars
  • Greek and Hebrew scholars
  • Textual and literary critics
  • Pastors and teachers
  • Seminary and graduate students
  • Anyone who regularly uses Bible commentaries and dictionaries

As others are mentioning, these are a great resource, but links are sketchy to a number of owned resources -BAGD is particularly frustrating as it's so useful a resource. I think in this instance it is because LOGOS and SIL are dealing with different namings for the resource. SIL shows BAGD for all its citations, LOGOS knows it as BDAG (the current 3rd edition, anyway), and the error message that comes up when I click on a BAGD link within an Exegetical Summary shows as "You don't have a license to view this resource; Resource ld: LLS:BGD". I have sent feedback to LOGOS about this on several occasions but it has not yet been addressed. Big PIA (hopefully, no one will stumble over *that* abbreviation!)!

These exegetical guides are FANTASTIC in content. They cut research time in half and point you right to where you need to go. For the content - 5 stars. The problem: most of the links don't work on some of the volumes which is one of the primary benefits to having the Logos edition. The links need to be updated, otherwise, the numerous resources it points to all have to be consulted manually. Further, if a resource isn't owned, it takes you to the old Logos site. Sometimes, it will say you don't own a resource that you do (Hebrews kept doing this with BAGD and a few others). If developers would update the links, I think these would be invaluable resources to any student of the Bible.

Pretty well curated to consult other commentaries and lexicons. The hyperlinking alone is worth the purchase. I like the way the highlights of what the resources shows up in the pop-up rather than having to look in the book separately, though that is also available on double click. Of course, I have my top commentaries and lexicons, etc, so they may be different than the links for ESS.

The Exegetical Summaries from SIL are a reliable source of insight for Bible translators and interpreters alike. Surely a must have for any LOGOS user!

This is probably my favorite resource in all of Logos. The summaries, in their question-and-answer format, are not only easy to read, but well thought out. Since a wide range of both commentaries and lexicons are cited, this set of resources is easy to rely on for a broad understanding of many different views of the text.
