The Anchor Yale Bible Commentary series is a fresh approach to the world’s greatest classic—the Bible. This prestigious commentary series of 90 volumes represents the pinnacle of biblical scholarship, drawing from the wisdom and resources of Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish scholars from around the world. A book-by-book translation and exegesis of the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament, and the Apocrypha that includes 90 volumes, this vast commentary series makes available all the significant historical and linguistic knowledge which bears on the interpretation of the Bible.

These massive commentaries have set the standard for biblical scholarship for decades—marking the beginning of a new era—by making the Bible accessible to modern readers. The Anchor Yale Bible Commentary series aims to arrive at the meaning of biblical literature through exact translation and extended exposition, and to reconstruct the ancient setting of the biblical story, as well as the circumstances of its transcription and the characteristics of its transcribers. These commentaries are written with the most exacting standards of scholarship, reflecting the highest technical accomplishment. They are vital for sermon preparation, research, and advanced study of the Bible.

I only have a few of the volumes in this series but am currently using it in a study of Galatians 3. It's been very helpful and favorably introduced me this series.

Think you are buying the whole set? Look carefully! The Gospel of Matthew is missing or more specifically "Matthew: Introduction, Translation, and Notes" (Series: Anchor Yale Bible (AYB) - Publication Date: 1995). This has to be purchased separately ! Logos frequently does this with purchases of Bible commentary sets! Then, once purchased, you find that a volume is missing! Unfortunately this is the way commerce functions(read mammon -- two masters stuff -- you get the point) ! I find it puzzling, however, that Logos as a "Christian" organization does this! All the same, we are a people who are commanded to love and forgive!

Joel Marcus, who does the commentary on Mark for this series, just had a guest post on Bart Ehrman's blog. I really liked what he said and it has me interested in this series to try and see if I can find some more Biblical scholars along his line of thinking.
