Overview
The Teacher’s Bible Commentary has been one of the widely-used reference tools for Sunday School teachers for over twenty-five years. From the idea stage, this commentary was designed to meet the week-to-week needs of men and women who have the awesome responsibility of leading others in the study of God’s Word. The contributors to this commentary are competent scholars who are both skilled communicators and loyal to God’s Word.
The Teacher’s Bible Commentary is designed to make it easy for any reader to grasp the central meaning of a passage of Scripture quickly. Difficult passages are dealt with in separate sections, giving the user the option of dealing with the difficulty or moving on.

About the Editors
H. Franklin Paschall was president of the Southern Baptist Convention and the pastor at the First Baptist Church in Nashville, TN.
Herschel H. Hobbs also served as the president of the Southern Baptist Convention. He was the pastor of First Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, OK, from 1949 to 1972 and the vice president of the Baptist World Alliance from 1965 to 1970. A graduate from Samford University, he also received a Master's in Theology and a Ph.D. in New Testament Interpretation at Southern Seminary. He is the author of My Favorite Illustrations in the Broadman & Holman Preaching Resources Collection (18 Vols.).

As a teacher's guide, it does break down the Bible in a simple, analytical way, that derives and clearly lays out moral lessons. When you examine it more closely, such as in passages like 1 Corinthians 11, 14, and 1 Timothy 2, where specific instructions are given for the distinct role of men and women, it clearly follows the model of cultural relativism. It basically teaches that the main reason for any distinction between men and women, is because Paul was a "child of his day", and boldly asserts that his instructions "no longer apply" for us today (see comments on 1 Corinthians 11:12-16). Likewise, in 1 Timothy chapter 2, it states that Paul was instructing Timothy to "be mindful of the social realities of the time and of the circumstances of his city", which totally ignores and contradicts Paul's explanation that the reasons were because God created Adam "protos", and because of Eve's role in the fall.
