Overview

In the eerie, classic television show The Twilight Zone, characters caught in the zone wanted nothing more than to return to normal life. Similarly, survivors of severe trauma fall into the trauma zone--place they want to escape from, but can’t. Some cannot move forward, feeling stuck and victimized by their past. Some cannot see the present, living in denial of what has happened. And others cannot learn from the past, repeating the same mistakes over and over. All of them find they can’t cope with the overwhelming emotions that accompany trauma. Collins, a licensed psychologist with over 25 years experience in the healthcare field, believes there is a way out of the trauma zone and back to emotional health, a path he outlines in this practical, encouraging book.

-Dr. William J. Shaw, President, National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. and Pastor, White Rock Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA

Dr. Collins has zeroed in on a most critical element of the human condition. So many people attempt to manage lives that are encumbered by the heavy weight of trauma. Too many are children. Such trauma clouds their minds and fills their heart with fear. Collins’ book is an encouraging and constructive work on the healing of trauma that can be found through the courageous, disciplined, and prayerful trust of God and those He sends to walk with us.
-Dr. David R. Black, President, Eastern University, St. Davids, PA

R. Dandridge Collins has brought, in the spirit of Jesus, a tough mind and a tender heart to those in need of emotional and spiritual healing. This significant and insightful work will help those who are wounded accept the marvelous grace of God, and give them both the ability and the will to move on.
-Rev. J. Wendell Mapson, Jr., President, Baptist Ministers, Philadelphia Conference and Vicinity, Pastor, Monumental Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA

Dr. Collins has produced a work that will bless the lives of believers for years to come. Many Christians walk around trapped in The Trauma Zone not knowing that there are exits signs in that “zone” to point the believer to the doors through which a follower of Christ may walk with confidence and with a cure for the disease with which they have been living for so long!
Dr. Collins’ Trauma D.J. keeps many persons of faith listening to a constant negative “rap” and also keeps them living beneath their dignity. They live with brokenness and unhealed wounds. Dr. Collins shows in the pages of this work how Christ will heal those wounds and how, when we walk along with Christ, we can become whole again.
I recommend his book to all who are in the helping professions. I recommend his book to all who wrestle with depression and negative attitudes. I recommend his book to all who would embrace what it is that Jesus had in His mind when He said, “I have come that you might have life more abundantly!"
-Pastor Jeremiah A. Wright, Trinity United Church of Christ, Chicago, IL

I am pleased to add my hearty endorsement to this well-written, insightful, and helpful treatment of a subject near and dear to my heart and absolutely essential to an effective holistic pastoral ministry. In some very important ways it is a timely, long-awaited practical resource for every pastor’s and counselor’s reading that effectively combines biblical and theological and spiritual discernment with documented clinical research. It is a must read for all ministers concerned about helping people to achieve what Jesus meant when He said, "Be thou made whole!"
-Rev. Dr. Albert F. Campbell, Pastor, Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA

The Trauma Zone is a well-written, user-friendly guide that will empower the reader to navigate the often tortuous path toward healing. By using real world examples, Dr. Collins affirms that there is hope for those who feel trapped in the trauma zone and highlights the pathways out of it. I well recommend this book to my patients who struggle with trauma and its aftereffects.

In The Trauma Zone: Trusting God for Emotional Healing, Dr. Collins brilliantly presents strategies that reflect his training in both the psychological and religious arenas. Dr. Collins’ down-to-earth approach and his unique integration of psychological principles and biblical insights make this book useful to survivors, their families and friends, and the professionals who treat/interact with them. Of particular interest are the chapters dealing with the "Three-Headed Monsters: flashbacks, nightmares and intrusive thoughts.” I highly recommend this work to everyone relating to Christian survivors of trauma.
-Melvin Rogers, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist, Past President, Pennsylvania Psychological Association

The Trauma Zone, an eloquent and readable guidebook filled with biblical truths, addresses complex issues of emotional trauma. It is a debilitating disease that fills our medical offices today.
