Chained Paul might be, this joyful prisoner of the Lord never wrote more warmly nor more wisely than in this letter to his friends in Philippi. Yet the apostle is not blind to faults, even of loyal brethren for whom he has a special affection. Evidently there was some dissension in this lively Christian community, due to personal jealousies and animosities. Unfortunately, the same can be just as true today. The Gospel is still at times preached from motives of selfish ambition and rivalry. All of us are still inclined to look after our own interests only. And fine Christian workers are still quarreling. This letter serves as a firm word of warning and a guide for right living. Praise for the Print Edition Commentaries. . . can be of great value. . . Most of all we need the help of those whose work is to feed, guard, and care for God's people week by week. Michael Bentley is just such an experienced pastor and teacher. —R.C. Lucas, Rector of St. Helen's Bishopsgate, London...

In August 2010 Dale Ralph Davis delivered these five messages from Jeremiah at the Evangelical Movement of Wales Conference in Aberystwyth. Those who were there on the occasion will recall the power and passion of this rich exposition of the Word of God. As he explains in the Preface, Dale Ralph Davis deliberately chose five passages that focused on the ‘down’ aspect of the prophet’s message. He explains his choice of passages in these words: . . . they supply a healthy corrective to some of the flippant and flimsy optimism we meet in certain ‘Christian’ propaganda about the Christian life and ministry. My prayer is that a number of the Lord’s servants who are slogging on in the paths of righteousness will, by the Spirit’s chemistry, be strangely comforted by this tormented prophet and the ‘ruthless Warrior’ who stood at his side. Dr. Davis preaching, slightly adapted here for the printed page, will surely be used to fulfill that prayer.
How can my choices be totally free if God is in control of all things at all times and knows the end from the beginning? How can God hear my words and thoughts while listening to billions of others around the world at exactly the same moment? How can God be all-powerful and all-loving and yet allow so much suffering and evil? Drawing on biblical teaching and scientific evidence that supports it, Dr. Ross invites us to know and experience God in a way we have never done before. As a result, our love and appreciation of him will be dramatically deepened, and the way we relate to him and to others—both believers and nonbelievers—will be changed forever.
If you've been waiting for a really effective riposte to the “new atheism” of Richard Dawkins and others (or even if you haven't), here it is—gently humorous, highly readable, deeply serious, razor sharp, and written by an internationally respected scientist. Who Made God? dismantles the arguments and pretensions of scientific atheism and presents a robust biblical theism as a positive—and altogether more convincing—alternative.
When it comes to the question of Jesus and what he is doing now, it is obvious that if we are ignorant or unsure about exactly who he is, we will never really understand what he is doing. Before we begin to look at the subject then, we need to learn—or at least to brush up on—the matter of just who Christ is. From his early ministry, via the ascension to his place of authority at the right hand of God, this book explores the vital subject of the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ as it is right now. The vital ministry of the Holy Spirit, the Lord Jesus Christ as priest, and his intercessory role are covered in this vital book.
Satire is a kind of preaching. Satire pervades Scripture. Satire treats the foibles of sinners with a less than perfect tenderness. But if a Christian employs satire today, he is almost immediately called to account for his unbiblical behavior. Yet Scripture shows that the central point of some religious controversies is to give offense. When Christ was confronted with ecclesiastical obstinacy and other forms of arrogance, he showed us a godly pattern for giving offense.
Archaeologist and professor John Currid explores the geography of the land of the Bible and a history of its excavation; describes archaeological sites throughout the land; and introduces discoveries connected to agriculture, architecture, ceramics, burial practices, and more. This introduction will encourage anyone interested in the witness of the land of the Bible (sometimes called the fifth gospel) and the insights archaeology gives us on Scripture.
Over 20 years ago John Blanchard compiled “A treasury of quotations for Christians” called Gathered Gold. It was so well-received that it had to be reprinted several times and augmented by two further volumes, More Gathered Gold and Sifted Silver. Now this material is available to a new readership and in a new format. Approximately 1,000 quotations have been added, bringing the total to 16,000 quotations. With quotations from hundreds of sources, The Complete Gathered Gold is sure to be a valuable resource for preachers, Bible class teachers and group leaders, as well as a “gold mine” for all Christians to dip into whenever they would like to read a gem of truth on any of the 600 subjects covered.

John Gill's commentaries on the Bible helped solidify the shift in Reformed thinking in the eighteenth century. These expository commentaries are key for the study of the development of Baptist and Reformed theological exegesis, and a must for any student serious about studying the Reformed tradition.
