Biblical Hebrew Step by Step (4 Vols.) offers a comprehensive introduction to biblical Hebrew with an emphasis on vocabulary and grammar comprehension. Menahem Mansoor, one of today’s foremost teachers of Hebrew to university students, clergy, and laypersons, incorporates the best contemporary methods and techniques for teaching languages. Well-integrated photographs and illustrations make for an attractive, inviting text for all those who wish to master biblical Hebrew.

Volume One introduces students to Semitic languages and the history of Hebrew. Beginning with the alphabet, Mansoor covers the basics of grammar and vocabulary. In fact, students attain reading comprehension after the first five lessons, and can construct rudimentary Hebrew sentences after only twelve lessons! Volume two moves beyond the basics, and includes twenty readings from Genesis, with an emphasis on verb patterns, regular and irregular noun plurals, irregular verbs, and translation tips. This collection also contains answer keys to each volume for quick reference.

Biblical Hebrew Step by Step is ideal for seminary, college, and high school students who possess little or no knowledge of Hebrew, as well as pastors and scholars looking to brush up their Hebrew grammar and vocabulary. These volumes are useful for individual study, and will particularly benefit anyone involved in translation and interpretation of the Old Testament.

Praise for the Print Edition

One of the most usable and, for the student, most interesting examples of [the deductive] teaching approach.
—David W. Baker, Journal of the Evangelical Society
To be commended in this grammar are its simply written and well-illustrated explanations… [and] its frequent repetition of commonly used biblical Hebrew words and basic syntactic instructions.
—George M. Landes, Catholic Biblical Quarterly
I find it a pleasure to recommend this welcome addition to the textbook literature of biblical Hebrew studies.
—Kenneth D. Roseman, Wisconsin Academy Review
