This collection includes the New Testament volumes from two technical commentary series: Hermeneia and Continental Commentary.

The Hermeneia series is designed to be a critical and historical commentary to the Bible without arbitrary limits in size or scope. It will utilize the full range of philological and historical tools, including textual criticism (often slighted in modern commentaries), the methods of the history of tradition (including genre and prosodic analysis), and the history of religion. Great for the serious student of the Bible, it will make full use of ancient Semitic and classical languages; at the same time, English translations of all comparative materials—Greek, Latin, Canaanite, or Akkadian—will be supplied alongside the citation of the source in its original language. Insofar as possible, the aim is to provide the student or scholar with full critical discussion of each problem of interpretation and with the primary data upon which the discussion is based.

Continental Commentary titles make leading critical biblical scholarship from German and French scholars available to the English-speaking world. This series combines scholarly excellence with academic rigor to benefit pastors, students, and scholars of both the Old and New Testament. Each book in the Continental Commentary Series includes comprehensive introductory material, including an explanation of narrative themes, an overview of the historical and cultural context, an analysis of textual traditions, and an evaluation of recent literature. The remainder of each volume is divided according to each pericope of Scripture, with each section containing a summary of secondary literature, a fresh translation of the text, an evaluation of the literary form and the setting in life, and a lengthy commentary. Each volume also contains indexes on Hebrew words, subjects, names and authors, and other material.

LOGOS converted the textual criticism section of these books into footnotes, resulting in the omission of page number information!!!!! It cannot be cited in academic papers!!!

I enjoy this commentary series - especially since its commentaries are not just limited to the books of the Bible.

Hermeneia is my favorite commentary.. It is very in depth and concisely accurate in details and explains the historical content and makes clear the theological aspect as wise.

If You bought Upgrade 3 which included 2 Mc by Robert Doran, 2 Chron by Ralph W. Klein and Luke 19:28–24:53 by François Bovon and don't know any Hebrew (as to utilize things such as the Qoheleth volumes and Wildberger's textual issue volumes on Isaiah), I heartily recommend the dynamic pricing purchase of this set! There are many up-to-date volumes. There's lots of truly excellent volumes: Mt, Lk, Acts by Pervo, Ro, 2 Cor 8-9, Gal by Lührmann, Hebrews, 1 Pt, The Johannine Letters by Strecker, 4 Ezra, the apostolic fathers, and The Odes of Solomon - I can't find any better and have compared to other sets such as AYBC NT, Paideia, NIB. About as liberal as AYBC NT and slightly less of the historical-critical method. Many other sets are too conservative. The only competition comes from the Eerdmans Critical Commentary -series.
