Faith Facts: Answers to Catholic Questions, vol. 1, is a natural outgrowth of Emmaus Road Publishing’s popular Catholic Responses department, through which they have served thousands of people who have brought questions concerning the Catholic faith. Faith Facts, vol. 1, will prepare you to answer 23 of the most frequently asked questions about the Catholic Church’s teachings, including papal authority, Mary’s role in our salvation, the truth about birth control, and more.
Faith Facts strives to present sound, constructive teaching on a wide range of topics that are important to Catholics today. Each chapter also contains practical questions to facilitate small group discussions and to assist the reader in applying these teachings to his or her own life.
Faith Facts is biblically grounded and completely faithful to the Magisterium of the Church. The authors address the most controversial issues in the Church today in a remarkably fraternal and constructive manner. I am certain that this book will help lead many people into the heart of the Church.

Mere Catholicism explains in easily accessible, non-technical language the fundamental doctrines of Catholicism. It also shows how these doctrines follow naturally from the fundamental doctrines common to orthodox Christians (“mere Christianity”). Catholicism can mystify or even repel other Christians, while its complexities can confuse Catholics themselves. Ian Ker’s stimulating book makes Catholicism come alive as the fullness of Christianity.
Dr. Ker’s brilliant, highly readable book . . . is indispensable, not only for those who are approaching Christianity and need guidance but also for Catholics who take their own faith for granted but could not coherently explain their beliefs to unbelieving friends. No other concise survey of the Catholic faith approaches it for clarity, for completeness, or for intellectual range.
—William Oddie, author, What Will Happen to God? Feminism and the Reconstruction of Christian Belief
Ian Ker teaches theology at Oxford University and is also a parish priest. He is the leading authority on the thought and writings of John Henry Newman, on whom he has published many books, including the definitive biography, as well as The Catholic Revival in English Literature, 1845–1961. Ker received his doctorate from Cambridge University.
A coherent, forceful, and compelling case for God and the church founded by Jesus of Nazareth. This is a remarkable achievement of solid, factual information that is loaded with ammunition for the new evangelization and contains colorful vignettes of historic moments alternating with sustained argument. Frederick Marks challenges the reader to set aside long-held assumptions and prejudices. Jesus is the only one who proclaimed himself sinless and the only one who ever claimed to be God. His followers converted an entire empire without resort to violence, and after winning Rome they not only gave the world its calendar but transformed pagan culture beyond recognition. These hard, cold facts are presented here with copious notes for easy identification of persons, events, or doctrines that may be unfamiliar. The reader will also find a detailed index and useful appendices.
Frederick W. Marks is an American historian and Catholic apologist. As a scholar, he has written and taught extensively on American diplomatic history. As a proponent of Roman Catholicism, he has written dozens of articles and tracts, and spoken extensively in public. Marks attended Loyola High School in New York City, attained his BA from Holy Cross College in 1962 and his PhD from the University of Michigan in 1968. He taught at the University of Michigan from 1967–1968, at Purdue University from 1968–1973, and at St. John’s University from 1974–1979. He is also the author of The Gift of Pain.
