All farmers want to be doctors, and all doctors want to be farmers. Bill Wright got caught up in the back half of that statement after buying the pasture next door to prevent someone from converting it into a pig farm or salvage yard. He had several friends who ran cows who offered advice, but mainly he was making it up as he went along.
What happened next is how campfire stories come about. Wright's grandchildren have heard the stories so many times that they now tell them themselves. He is still the county standard by which all cow operations are compared, as in, "This is what he did, so don't do that."
Come through that hole in the fence and join the journey of going from the owner of an empty field to a cattle baron by not paying attention.
“If you’ve ever dreamed of getting some acreage out in the country, running some cows, and maybe keeping some chickens, you’ll enjoy Bill Wright’s book. It’s a humorous mixture of his venturing into the great unknowns of raising cattle, the ups and downs of what happens when the cows think outside of the box, the interactions with and reactions of family, friends, and neighbors, and outcomes beyond your wildest imaginations.”
—Dan Warthen, retired QA lab supervisor
“Holy cow, Bill Wright’s udder nonsense takes readers on a hilarious journey of learning from others’ ‘miss-steaks.’ Thoroughly amoosing.”
—Dwight Bowlin, co-owner, LGS Prime Logistics
“I really enjoyed the story! As a part time cattle rancher myself, it rang amusingly true with many of my experiences, From cattle jumping fences in and out of our pastures, chasing bulls, down to the same experience with a pop-up trailer. And I learned a few things about ways to use (and not use) a round pen! I was reading a few chapters out loud and had Bethany laughing her head off!”
—Kerry Coppell, cattle rancher
