FAQ

What are the new Logos subscriptions?

The next major version of Logos will launch this fall as a subscription.

The three subscription tiers are designed to fit the main ways people use Logos: small group prep (Logos Premium), sermon prep (Logos Pro), and academic and original language study (Logos Max). Our hope is to give users exactly what they need—no more, no less. We want users to feel like their Logos subscription exactly fits their needs.

These subscriptions will replace Preaching Suite, Faithlife Connect, and other Logos feature sets. Libraries will still be available for purchase separately (e.g., Gold, Silver, Bronze, etc.). New Libraries will only be available to Logos subscribers, however Legacy Libraries will be available to everyone.

Why is Logos moving to a subscription?

The world is changing fast, and customers have told us that they don’t want to have to wait two years to get new and improved features that would help them get deeper insights in less time. As a result, Logos must evolve to enable truth seeking at the same pace as the world we live in. With a subscription, you’ll get new features and improvements as soon as they’re ready—no more waiting for two years.

We’ll also be able to respond to your needs faster, turning good features into great ones and releasing new capabilities created to meet specific needs. Plus, we can include advanced AI and cloud-backed features that require ongoing support and help make Logos both easier to use and more powerful so that you can focus on understanding and communicating Scripture. You’ll also enjoy valuable perks and lower upfront costs, making it easier to try Logos without a big commitment.

What is a Legacy Fallback License?

A Legacy Fallback License allows you to keep offline features when you cancel your subscription after 24 consecutive months. Instead of falling back to a free or previous version* of Logos, you'll keep features from your subscription tier that don't rely on the cloud or AI.

* If you’ve already purchased Logos packages or feature sets, those are yours to keep—you won’t lose them. You’ll continue to be able to use the features you’ve paid for.

Who is eligible to get the Legacy Fallback License?

If you’ve ever purchased a Logos base package*, you’ll be eligible to earn the Legacy Fallback License after you’ve subscribed for 24 consecutive months.

*Logos Fundamentals does not qualify as a base package

How do I redeem my Legacy Fallback License?

If you cancel your subscription after you’ve subscribed for 24 months, you’ll be given a Legacy Fallback License automatically. After receiving the Legacy Fallback License, you will no longer receive future feature improvements or new features. Bug fixes and compatibility updates are always free for all users, so your software will keep working long into the future.

Are the books included with the subscriptions included in the Legacy Fallback License?

No, the Legacy Fallback License allows you to retain access to Logos features, but it won’t give you permanent ownership to books.

Which features aren't included in the Legacy Fallback License?

What happens if I cancel my subscription before I reach 24 months, but I resubscribe later?

If you cancel your subscription before you have subscribed for 24 months, your time will be reset to 0, and you'll need to subscribe for 24 months before receiving a Legacy Fallback License.

What happens if I upgrade or downgrade my subscription tier before I earn my Legacy Fallback License?

If you upgrade your subscription, you’ll receive the Legacy Fallback License for your original subscription after 24 months. And 24 months after you upgrade your subscription, you’ll receive the Legacy Fallback License for your upgrade.

If you downgrade your subscription, you’ll receive the Legacy Fallback License for your downgraded subscription 24 months after your initial subscription date.

More information about the Legacy Fallback License perk is coming soon.

I have an Early Access subscription. When does the 24-month qualification period for the Legacy Fallback License start?

Your qualifying period starts when you begin your subscription or free trial. However, the Legacy Fallback License won't be available until October 2026. After 24 consecutive months, even if it is before October 2026, you'll be eligible to receive the Legacy Fallback License associated with your subscription tier.

For example: if you subscribed to Logos Pro (early access) via a 30-day free trial on June 1, 2024, after renewing on May 1, 2026 (your 24th consecutive month), you will receive the license in October 2026 as soon as it is available.

Will I lose my features, books, or investment in Logos?

No, your investment in Logos is safe, and you’ll always be able to access your content in Logos for free.

You aren’t required to subscribe to keep your access to content or features you already own. The subscription is for anyone who wants access to the latest version of Logos which will get new features or improvements roughly every six weeks.

If you’ve already purchased Logos packages or feature sets, those are yours to keep—you won’t lose them. You’ll continue to be able to use the features you’ve paid for, regardless of whether you subscribe to the latest version.

Do I have to subscribe to keep access to Logos?

No, you won’t be forced to subscribe to Logos.

Unlike most software companies, we make our latest software available to everyone. Even if the last feature set you bought was Logos 4 in 2009 (or even version 1 in 1992!), you’ll continue to receive free app updates, ensuring you can keep using Logos anytime you change computers or upgrade your operating system. You’ll continue to receive bug fixes for free, too. What you won’t get is access to the powerful new and improved features that will be offered in the subscription version of Logos.

Will the free version of Logos continue to be available?

Yes, it will still be available. We want Logos to continue to be the most accessible and powerful place for believers to study the Word.

You can see details of the current free edition here. With it, any Christian can still go deeper in the Word with access to resources and features like Bible Word Study, the Basic Bible Study workflow, and a limited version of Factbook without having to pay anything.

Can I still buy and keep books, or will they be a subscription too?

None of this changes. You’ll still be able to purchase books, either individually or in a collection, and you’ll own them forever.

You’ll still be able to buy permanent access to Logos libraries and any other books from our catalog. To purchase the latest libraries you will need to subscribe to Logos, however our Legacy Libraries will be available to everyone. In the future, we may add rental options for those who want it, but we don’t foresee a time when we’ll stop selling permanent licenses to books and curated libraries.

Is my investment safe with Logos?

Yes, Logos is in a strong financial position and well-equipped to serve you and our mission for the long haul. We’re committed to increasing biblical literacy and accessibility for every Christian in the world, and our work isn’t anywhere near done yet.

Common Questions about Early Access to Logos Subscriptions

FAQ

01

What is early access?

Early access invites select customers to test out and subscribe to the new Logos subscription early (ahead of fall launch). For those not invited or eligible for early access, these subscriptions will be available starting in the fall. The early access window closes on October 4, 2024. You can see if you’re eligible for early access and sign up for updates here.

01

What happens to my subscription when early access closes?

If you’re already on early access, no action is required. Your subscription will continue without any interruption. As we move toward the public launch of our subscriptions, you will notice perks added to your subscription.

02

Can I cancel at any time?

Yes, just visit https://www.logos.com/account/subscriptions.

03

Is early access to the Logos subscriptions a beta program?

No, each feature is beta-tested before it becomes part of any of the Logos early access subscriptions.

04

Is there a usage limit on AI tools?

To ensure a fair level of access for every user, each subscriber gets a fair usage limit on their use of AI tools each month. The limits are generous—typically, we allow thousands of uses of AI features each month before you hit the limit. The app will let you know when you’re getting close.

05

Does AI really have a place in Bible study?

Christians have always been at the forefront of technology when it comes to accessing and understanding the Bible, whether adopting the codex in the second century or the printing press in the fifteenth. However, AI has limitations, fallibilities, and biases because it mirrors and sometimes amplifies weaknesses found in all human authors. That’s why Logos always lets you know when the content you’re reading is generated by AI. In addition, Logos’s AI tools are backed by your Logos library and designed to ensure AI is used responsibly and in a way appropriate for Bible study.

06

Do Logos early access subscriptions include all the features, books, and perks included in existing subscriptions?

No, the new Logos subscriptions will include varying levels of features. The Logos Pro tier, for instance, includes every new feature not available anywhere else (Smart Search, Summarize, Sermon Assistant, and more) and most Logos 10 features. It also provides access to 430 books, but the library differs from those contained in Preaching Suite or Faithlife Connect. The new Logos subscriptions will also receive continual updates and new features roughly every six weeks as part of our shift to a continuous release cycle.

07

If I buy new books or libraries while I’m subscribed and then unsubscribe, will I lose them?

No, books or libraries you buy are yours forever. If you unsubscribe, you would only lose book access that was included in the subscription.

08

Why can’t I get an early access subscription yet?

Subscriptions will be available to anyone starting in the fall of 2024. Until then, we’re inviting groups of users to be part of the early access program at different times so that we can gather and implement feedback, figure out the best trial length, and refine other details so we present the best options in the best way at launch. We began by offering early access to Logos 10 customers with a full feature set as a thank you for their investment and to gather initial feedback from them. We expanded availability to another group at the end of April and look to do so again in the summer.
