Aimee Semple McPherson (1890–1944) was a prominent evangelist in Los Angeles and founder of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. She performed public healings, promoted the idea of America as a nation particularly blessed by God, engaged in charity work, and became a model that many Charismatic churches emulated and followed. Her ministry casts a long shadow on this movement within the modern American church.
