This public domain book was unfortunately corrupted when converted to Logos format and errors not present in the print edition are introduced here. I hoped Faithlife would do better, especially with public domain resources.

There seems to be an error: The book is not by R. Payne Smith, but by his daughter Jessie. (The 1st ed. was published in 1903, Robert died in 1895) (BTW: Please make the Thesaurus Syriacus (which is by R. Payne Smith) happen in Logos!)

This is a useful tool. However, I would not recommend that anyone buy the Logos version UNLESS they also own hard copy. The reason? There are simply too many typos! They are annoying wherever they occur, and if they happen in the "head word" of the dictionary article, they prevent the search engine from finding the word -- fortunately this is fairly rare. I paid over $160 for my "hard copy" back in the 1990's, but now you can get one on Amazon for about $90.00. At $12.49, the Logos price is hard to beat! But you get what you pay for. It is a great help MOST of the time. It will speed your work in Syriac (most of the time).But if you are going to do serious work in Syriac, you need to buy the hard copy as well. Final note: if you take the time to report every typo you see to Logos, you will not save ANY time.Der Übermensch
