This book explores common challenges and joys in the life of faith by means of a guided tour through the seasons of the church year. Issues such as complacency, despair, unanswered prayer, evil, suffering, discerning God's will, adversity, achieving inner peace, and more are explored from the pastoral perspective of a shepherd's heart. Those new to the church year will discover its blessings and benefits, while those more familiar with its rhythms will gain a deeper appreciation of its formative power. Readers are invited on a journey of discovery where following Christ assumes a concrete shape in the midst of life's practical concerns, all within a thoroughly biblical framework.

“Brook Thelander breathes new meaning into the seasons of the Christian year. He not only explains in clear terms their origin in the history of the church, but by combining biblical exposition, theological reflection, and reference to authors as diverse as Athanasius and Sayers probes their significance for contemporary Christians as they face the various struggles and questions of their lives.”

—David R. Bauer, dean, School of Biblical Interpretation, Asbury Theological Seminary

It’s About Time gave me deeper insight and greater appreciation for the wisdom of church fathers, who centuries ago knew the importance of following a liturgical calendar as we progress through the seasons of not only the year, but the seasons of our lives as well. For teachers and those who prepare sermons, the book is one that will become a go-to reference throughout the year. For all readers, this is a book that one will want to take time to read, at the right times.”

—Gene Fadness, deacon, St. Mary’s Parish, Boise, Idaho

Brook Thelander holds degrees from MidAmerica Nazarene University, Asbury Theological Seminary, and the Toronto School of Theology in the University of Toronto. He spent almost three decades in pastoral ministry and has served as an adjunct instructor at various colleges and universities. He and his wife, Connie, reside in Boise, Idaho.
