Overview

Peter’s short letter to the ‘exiles of the Dispersion’ addresses many topics: holiness, the sufferings of Christ, suffering as a Christian, God’s sovereignty in salvation and life, the grace of God, the work of the Holy Spirit, the church as the new people of God, the reality of the unseen spiritual world, and trusting in God in the midst of daily circumstances. It is suffering, Wayne Grudem suggests, that ties these seemingly disparate themes together, particularly suffering as a form of imitating Christ, who, by bearing our sins on the cross, gives meaning and comfort to Christians in all aspects of their daily lives.

What I can read from the preview doesn't encourage me to purchase the revision, as it's almost word for word the same as the original.

Here's a response from an associate of Dr. Grudem, about what's changed in the content of this work: "Dr. Grudem and the publisher are still finalizing some of the final details in the 2023 version, so it might end up being a little longer than 240 pages. However, in summary, the 2023 version will include additional material that is not in the previous versions, such as updated thoughts from Dr. Grudem on 1 Peter and more interaction with other recent commentaries."

Here's the big question. Does newer, updated versions of books, in any way invalidate the older version, or parts of the older version?

I emailed Grudem. If he responds about what's new in this version, I'll post it here Lord willing.

Own the first book, do not understand why spending thousands of dollars in Logos a person has to spend extra money for an updated version when It should be added to library already owned.

I don't have a review, as I have not purchased the update. The 2009 version is 239 pages by Wayne Grudem. This version is 240 pages by Wayne Grudem. I have been using this commentary in teaching 1 Peter to a small group. What is the difference in versions? What makes it worth spending an extra 11 dollars for multiple folks? I own the TNTC collection - what will be the cost of keeping it current? It is a great study and teaching resource.

This revised edition, after 35 years from the first one, appears to be certainly useful; however I would also have expected an expansion which instead does not seem to be there since the first edition is 248 pages versus the 240 of this one
