Overview

Mending Fences is a ten-week workbook about repairing broken or damaged relationships. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday begins with Scripture followed by a description of how the verse(s) pertains to difficult relationships. A relevant action assignment is then given that brings the verse(s) to life. Though the lessons are short and easy to read (requiring less than ten minutes each), the rubber meets the road in the challenging action assignments, where one is called to live out biblical truths. Each lesson ends with a space for journaling where readers can reflect on what they experienced.

In contrast to the harsh rhetoric and “me-focus” of today’s world, the emphasis of this book is on self-responsibility. Instead of erecting walls to keep people out, this book opens the door to healing fractured relationships through selfless demonstrations of true “agape” love. Several lessons are also devoted to strengthening one’s relationship with Jesus since that relationship is foundational to all others.

“Nancy Weyer has seen counseling from both sides: the man-centered side . . . and the Christian side, where man beholds an absolute standard beyond him . . . and makes incremental steps to approach that which is true and good. Nancy’s work is not merely insightful but humane, as she has felt the longings of those she has counseled. It is also exceedingly practical, brief, and to the point. The book will explain itself. I recommend it.”

—Tommy Nelson, Senior Pastor, Denton Bible Church

“The quality of all our lives depends on the quality of our relationships. Dr. Weyer has written a relatable book to help us deal with the complexities of our relationships. Furthermore, she recommends that we be the initiators of fence-mending with humility while looking to the timeless word of God. These biblical truths have helped the people of Rwanda to mend their fences in the rebuilding of their country after the genocide of 1994.”

—Cyrus Mad-Bondo, Mobilization Leader, Global Outreach, McLean Bible Church

Nancy Weyer is a biblical counselor in private practice who has taught biblical and professional counseling in Christian universities. Although trained in psychological methods of counseling, she relies on the authority of God’s word to counsel her clients. Her desire is to equip Christians with the teachings of the Bible so they can accurately apply Scripture to their own lives in practical ways.
