Susana Porras’s journey over the Camino de Santiago with her seventy-three-year-old father was a life-changing journey filled with awe-inspiring scenery, spiritual awakening, and lots of cafe con leche. Come with them as they travel physically, spiritually, and historically along this five-hundred-mile Camino. Take in the scenery, learn about its thousand-year history of clerics and kings, and of course, don’t forget to stop and savor the tortillas.
“Porras’s sonnets ignite the senses and capture the rhythm of a
Camino day. The book summons memories of Caminos walked and
anticipation of paths yet traveled, revealing the landscape,
cuisine, prayers, and cultural history of the Way of St. James.
Readers will feel the uncommon spiritual connections that are
awakened as daughter and father make new pilgrim friends together
on the road to Santiago.”
—Kathleen E. Jenkins, author of Walking the Way Together: How
Families Connect on the Camino de Santiago
“This journey along the Camino de Santiago is a very real journey,
and still, a metaphor for life. This diary, presented as poetry,
provides poignant glimpses of a journey of a saint, a journey of a
woman and her father, the journey of life. It is not about
finishing, it is—as we have been told so often—all about the
quality of the journey. Here we have the sweet poetic verse
artfully interspersed with the details of a tour guide. To
Compostela and Beyond! is a pleasant and refreshing work that
should both inspire and motivate. . . . This is a wonderful
addition to your bookshelf—and your backpack.”
