Overview

Philip Comfort presents an easy-to-understand guide to English Bible translations. Comfort explains in simple terms how the Old and New Testaments have been passed down to us today, including what important ancient manuscripts were involved. He also guides the reader through the fascinating (and often inspirational) history of English Bible translations, showing how different Bible versions are related. Differences in several of today's common English versions are drawn out, providing an important guide for choosing between the often confusing plethora of English Bible versions currently available.

Great book that gives in very brief chapters a large amount of information on ible books and the canon, bible manuscripts, bible translation history and the various bible translations available in English - including a comparative sample from John 1. This (and look at the price!) is really a great read - but it s copyright 1991 and thus misses more recent developments (e.g. ESV , NET are not discussed and the whole whoppla around gender-adequate translating does not feature). This was 7 of 5 stars 25 years ago - since most of the information is not outdated, I still think it's 5 stars today, especially when taking into account the readability and value for price. Get it!
