M. R. Mercer invites us to reflect upon life, death and Christian faith in the latter portion of our lives. In a world that seems intent on ignoring mortality, he encourages us to engage the reality of our human limits reflectively, and with deep faith and hope. To live well, he argues, we must include in our thinking the truth that we won’t live forever.
"In this short work, Dr. Mercer displays his unique ability to
speak to his own frailty and fear of death while bringing hope and
comfort to his audience. His reflections are steeped in his sturdy
but flexible Biblical faith, and brought to light through poignant
imagery and everyday experiences. Dr. Mercer has been an invaluable
colleague, mentor, and teacher to myself and many others, and
through this work you will find yourself drawn into his deep
repository of wisdom."
