“Pontitian, an African Christian and an officer in the imperial household, stopped by for a visit” (Page 121)

“By the mid-sixteenth century the Reformation had shattered the traditional unity of Western Europe and had bequeathed to modern times religious pluralism. The Church of Rome resisted this attack on tradition and mustered new troops, especially the Society of Jesus. The church sent out fresh waves of missionaries to Asia, Africa, and Latin America, and waged war in France, the Netherlands, and Germany. But in the end, Christendom slipped into yesteryear. In its place arose the denominational concept of the church, which allowed modern nations to treat the churches as voluntary societies separated from the state.” (Page 215)

“‘Unless I am convinced by the testimony of Scripture or by clear reason (for I trust neither pope nor council alone, since it is well known that they have often erred and contradicted themselves), I am bound by the Scriptures I have cited, for my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and will not recant anything since to act against one’s conscience is neither safe nor right. I cannot do otherwise. Here I stand, may God help me. Amen.’” (Page 219)

“Rome’s position finally prevailed and was officially adopted by the Council of Nicea in 325.” (Page 104)

“Tenochtitlan (Mexico City) becomes Aztec capital 1325” (Page xxviii)

+ a list of events with a recap for each of them that can be useful to start a study + a chronologic manner to present events - some dates seems strange (in general too precise for events that occurs more than 2000 years ago) -- no reference on the documents used to establish dates. We never know if this is based on archeological documents, on calculation or whatever else. This is really confusing because if some dates are based on calculations, they cannot be used to calculate other events from this one. It is also unclear if these are dates based on a literal reading of the Bible or not. Then the lack of references is really annoying to use safely these dates for sermons (however we read the Bible, literally or not)
