This workflow takes you through some steps you can follow for devotional Bible reading. Devotional time with Scripture is different from Bible study or exegesis of Scripture. When studying the Bible exegetically, you are trying to find out what a passage means. When approaching the Bible devotionally, you are trying to have a personal encounter with God through Scripture. Exegetical Bible study can certainly include elements of devotion (you want to ask what a passage means for you), and devotional reading can include elements of exegesis (you want to ask what a passage meant to its original hearers), but in general it is best to decide to focus primarily on either exegesis or devotion in a given study time. With this workflow, you will pray, read and reflect on Scripture, and pray about what you read. Enter a Scripture passage above to get started.
