Overview

Benjamin Jowett ignited a storm of controversy with his essay, “On the Interpretation of Scripture” published in the 1860 book Essays and Reviews. However, many of his most startling assertions—including his insistence that the Bible is no different than any other classical text—are anticipated in this earlier work. This resource includes Jowett’s notes.
