The Shelbydog Chronicles by Shelby Cole is a novel that illustrates what one brindle Labrador-Boxer mix, female dog says and thinks. With the help of Mark G. Boyer, who serves as the recorder of Shelby's words, Cole narrates the story of her life from birth, to puppyhood, into adulthood, and her life with several owners, including Boyer. Included in the thirteen chapters of this novel are Shelby's adventures and birthdays up to her tenth human year and sixty-seventh dog year. She also tells the story of how she came to live with Boyer and how he has become her translator from dog talk to English. This novel provides the readers--both dog-lovers and others--with a few hours of insight into what a dog says and what she thinks about through the years.

The Shelbydog Chronicles is a touching story of compassion, companionship, and friendship between Shelbydog and her human, Mark. Their journey of relationship exemplifies the transformative power of being known, accepted, and loved!”

—Matthew Ver Miller, life coach

“Anyone who has ever owned a dog will relate to Shelby’s adventures with Mark. The joy and hard work of raising a pet come out very clearly in this chronicle of a shared life. Coming from the dog’s point of view provides a commentary both comical and quirky. Pet lovers may find themselves caught up in trying to communicate or at least wondering just what is going on in their head.”

—Victor H. Matthews, dean of the College of Humanities and Public Affairs, Missouri State University

“In this unique tale of companionship between dog and human, written from a dog’s perspective, pet owners everywhere will instantly recognize the subtle yet profound ways that animals communicate with people. As Shelby the Dog tells her life story, she shows how mutual love and a relationship of trust between pet and owner deeply affect the personalities of both.”

—John Kossler, ecologist, Western Meridian Resources
