Overview

Written by popular NPH author Daniel Deutschlander as one of his final works, Your Kingdom Come offers a thought-provoking yet easy-to-read explanation of the passages of St. Mark’s gospel. Drawing directly from the Holy Bible: Evangelical Heritage Version (EHV), this commentary features helpful (and sometimes surprising) insights from Deutschlander with cross references to the gospels of Matthew, Luke, and John for added context. This book also contains an appendix featuring an essay that summarizes and supplements The Theology of the Cross: Reflections on His Cross and Ours, one of Deutschlander’s most popular works. As you explore the shortest biblical account of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, you will discover many memorable teachings that are too good to keep to yourself.

Daniel Deutschlander served congregations as a parish pastor (1968-1980) in South Dakota and Canada and as a campus pastor at Northwestern University in Illinois. He also served as circuit pastor, district vice president, member of the WELS Commission on Evangelism, and on district evangelism and stewardship boards. From 1980 to 1984, he served as the weekly preacher for a WELS German radio broadcast that went from Eastern Europe to German communities far east of the Soviet Union.

Deutschlander also taught at Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School in Jackson, Wisconsin, as assistant principal and teacher of German and religion; Northwestern College in Watertown, Wisconsin as professor of German, history, philosophy, and religion; Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota as professor of German, history, and religion; Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary as an occasional summer quarter lecturer; and Wisconsin Lutheran College as adjunct professor of history for a semester.

Deutschlander conducted preaching workshops for parish pastors, and a seminar on church-state relations in Kiev, Ukraine, after the Ukrainian Lutheran Church translated and published Civil Government: God’s Other Kingdom from the People’s Bible Teachings series. In addition, he was a highly requested and prolific presenter on a wide variety of topics for conferences. Deutschlander also authored numerous doctrinal essays and papers, and other works including books, sermons, and devotions published by Northwestern Publishing House. He went to his heavenly home on October 26, 2020.
