It is the purpose of this book to seek virtue through history and Scripture. Christians should seek to live virtuous lives. The contents of this book include hundreds of Scriptures that will aid believers as they pursue virtue. In addition to the Scripture, there are also hundreds of quotes and stories from various sources that will illuminate the path of virtuous living. Through all of the sources provided, this book will be a resource for those who are looking for inspiration to live a life of excellence. The unique contribution of this book is that the quotes and stories are all documented and cited. This book will be a resource for Christian teachers and preachers who are looking for relevant illustrations and quotes to be used in their sermons and Sunday school lessons.
“The historically venerated concept of virtue has fallen on hard
times. In this morally dark moment, David Goza’s book, Seeking
Virtue, unfolds the dimensions of virtue according to Scripture
and history. Goza has carefully winnowed choice citations related
to classic biblical and historical examples of virtuous—or
corrupt—thinking and behavior. Highly recommended for anyone
courageously undertaking the ‘road less traveled’ of virtue.”
—A. Boyd Luter, Professor of Biblical Studies, The King’s
University
“Weaving examples from ancient history as well as more modern
American and British history, Dr. Goza has compiled a goldmine of
inspirational stories on virtuous living. The preacher will be
indebted to Dr. Goza for finding inspirational stories to use in
sermons. Parents will find principles and stories to teach their
children. Every reader will be convicted toward a more virtuous
life.”
—Steve Horn, Executive Director, Louisiana Baptists
“It is obvious that David is a student of and scholar in both
Scripture and history. Seeking Virtue will be a book that
pastors, Bible teachers, and anyone who loves history will have on
their ‘read schedule’ and then serve as strategic resource in
sermon and lesson preparation.”
—Tommy G. Middleton, Executive Director, Baptist Association of
Greater Baton Rouge
“‘ . . . add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge . . . ’
Peter challenges the believer to pursue moral excellence, or what
we call virtue. My friend, Dr. Goza, carefully illustrates the
truth of Scripture and the call to virtue with revealing and
insightful accounts from history, both ancient and modern. History
is the acid test for the truth of Scripture, and in Seeking
Virtue, Dr. Goza proves that truth once again. I highly
recommend Seeking Virtue!”
—Tony Perkins, President, Family Research Council, Washington,
DC
