Some days you want to open the app and just read. Other days you want all your study tools spread across the screen. And most of us have started a reading plan with good intentions, only to lose track by week 2.
Version 54 (v54) lets the mobile app work the way you do, builds a Reading Plan around whatever you’re wrestling with, and gives you a little encouragement to keep coming back to God’s Word. Plus, a preview of Study Assistant’s brand-new research mode is on the way for your hardest study questions.

1. Coming soon—a preview of research mode
Some questions require more digging to answer. Maybe you want to trace the Sabbath through Scripture and see where theological traditions disagree, analyze the reasons behind the different translations of Deuteronomy 32:8–9, or get a breakdown of what commentaries say about a verse you’re studying.
Research mode is a new way to use Study Assistant, built especially for questions like these. It plans how to research your question and works through your library much like a researcher would. It checks your top Bible, commentaries, dictionaries, and lexicons, keeps reading when a book looks helpful, and changes course when it finds a new angle.
Just like with Study Assistant, every answer comes with citations, so you can check each claim against the source and then go dig in those sources for yourself.
A preview of research mode will arrive in Study Assistant for subscribers soon. It’s an early look, so expect it to keep improving. Once it’s fully developed, research mode will be a Logos Max feature, but the preview will be open for anyone to try.

2. Your mobile app, set up your way
In the Logos mobile app, tabs and layouts let you keep several books and tools open at once. Some people build their whole study routine around them. Others just want to open a Bible and read.
Starting with v54, by default the mobile app turns off tabs and layouts to keep things simple to use.
If you love your tabs, nothing is lost. When you first open v54, you’ll be asked whether you want to turn them back on. Or you can go to the More menu and flip the Tabs and layouts toggle. Every tab and layout you had open before the update will be waiting exactly as you left it, and you can switch the setting on or off whenever you like.

3. A reading plan for whatever’s on your heart or mind
Logos already has a library of ready-made reading plans, but sometimes what you want isn’t on the list.
Now you can enter a topic in your own words, like “Passages that address anxiety for 20 days,” and Logos will automatically build a plan around it with a title for each session and each passage to read. (Plans can be up to 31 days long.)
Before you commit, preview the whole plan to see what you’ll be reading. If it’s not quite right, describe what you’d like changed, such as more sessions or a narrower focus, and the plan will update.
You’ll find it in the Reading Plan Creation wizard, either in the Find a plan search box on the first screen or under the new By topic option when you choose what to read.

Those not subscribed can create one free topical plan of up to seven sessions each month.
4. Streaks that forgive a busy week
When you finish your readings on time, a streak shows how many you’ve completed in a row. You’ll see it on your reading plan card on the Dashboard, in the Reading Plan Manager, and on each plan’s details page.
Streaks count sessions finished on or before their scheduled day, so a weekly plan builds a streak just as well as a daily one.
Life happens, though. Fall behind and your streak breaks. But once you catch up, open the menu on any past session and choose Mark as if read on time to repair the gap and pick your streak back up. Read it in your paperback Bible that morning? This is for you too.
The point isn’t a perfect record. It’s to see how you kept coming back to God’s Word, even after a week that didn’t go as planned.

5. Your next book, easier to find
Sometimes the book that would help you most with a passage is one you don’t own yet. This update puts the store closer to where you study to help you find the resources you need.
In the mobile app:
- Tap the new Store button at the top of Today and Study, or find Store pinned in Study.
- Switch between your Library and the Store right from the library screen.
- When you search your library, a note at the bottom of the results points you to matching books in the Store.
- Books you already own no longer show up in the Store, so you’re only browsing what’s new to you.
On desktop and web:
- On desktop, the Store now opens in a panel alongside your work, just like it already does on web.
- Books in your preferred language now show up first, then original-language resources like Greek and Hebrew lexicons.
