In this volume of the Not Your Average Bible Study series, John D. Barry unravels the many layers of Jesus’ parables, revealing the radical truths contained within. This 18-week Bible study by John Stott takes individuals or groups through the book of Acts. Each week begins with commentary from Stott and an open question, discusses a Scripture passage, and ends with application and prayer. After this study, participants will better understand the context and themes of Acts and a greater appreciation for the Spirit’s power.

3. Ephesians: Building a Community in Christ

Paul’s letter to the Ephesians is about uniting all things in Christ. This 12-week Bible study by John Stott goes through the whole letter to teach how to break down what separates us from God and from each other. It asks questions like “How are you affected by the fact that God had a plan for you before the world was created?” and “What is this purpose of God for the future?” (answered in Eph 1:10).

Participants begin by studying Genesis 24 and 25:19–28, then progress through stories of Jacob to end with his renaming and renewal in Genesis 25:1–29.

9. Growing One Another: Discipleship in the Church

​​Discipleship was one of the central themes of Jesus’ teaching, yet it is not a major emphasis today for many churches. This six-week study explores the Bible’s teaching on discipleship and covers such topics as the need for discipleship, the demands of discipleship, and the enemy of discipleship.

With discussion questions at the end of each chapter, participants work through guided reflection as they learn about the centrality of discipleship in the Christian life.
