How to Easily Locate Paul’s Prayers

Through the years as I’ve taught discipleship and spiritual formation classes, I’ve encouraged people to pray Paul’s prayers for others and themselves.

For example, Ephesians 3:14-19 is one of my favorites in which Paul prays that Christ will dwell in the hearts of Christians. We’ll save the study of dwell for another day.

Today, however, I just want to show you how easy it is to locate all of Paul’s prayers scattered throughout his letters:

  • Open most any Bible
  • Navigate to one of Paul’s prayers such as the one I mentioned in Ephesians 3:14-19 (A)
  • Right click on any word within the prayer (B)
  • Expand on the right side of the Context menu the Literary Typing section (C)
  • Select Prayer in this expanded section (D)
  • Select on the left side of the Context menu Search this resource (E)

  • Change the verse range on the Search panel to Pauline Epistles (F)
  • Select Aligned as the results view (G)

Now in this list of verses easily read the prayers Paul recorded for us!

For a list and description of all the literary types that have been labeled throughout the Bible open from the library The Lexham Glossary of Literary Types.

Using the above steps, right click on a word in Ephesians 3:20 and find the various doxologies penned in Paul’s letters!
