The biblical authors frequently point to other parts of Scripture through carefully chosen phrases and figures of speech.

For example, Jonah 1:3 tells us Jonah fled “from the presence of the Lord.” At first glance, it appears Jonah is running from God. However, studying cross-references to Jonah 1:3 gives a deeper meaning to what might be going on in that passage.

It’s finding those cross-references that can take some digging and be time-consuming.

The Logos Passage Guide helps you make these connections in just a few clicks. First, open the Passage Guide by clicking Guides, then Passage Guide. Enter Jonah 1:3 in the search box, hit enter, and Logos will display a list of cross-references.

Cross-references reveal this phrase is also used to describe Cain (Gen 4:16) and Satan (Job 1:12). By using Scripture to interpret Scripture, we learn Jonah is not simply on the run from God—he has entered the company of those who attack righteous people!

Next, expand the Important Passages* section, and Logos locates the most relevant references, along with other resources, putting them right at your fingertips.
