Get the best in Scripture studies

Scripture is one of the three legs of the Anglican “stool” (Scripture, reason, and tradition). Though most Anglicans try to strike a balance between the three, Scripture is assumed to be the first among equals. It is the foundation from which tradition flows and the basis for a reasoned approach to the Christian life. As Article VI of the Book of Common Prayer says:

Holy Scripture containeth all things necessary to salvation: so that whatsoever is not read therein, nor may be proved thereby, is not to be required of any man, that it should be believed as an article of the Faith, or be thought requisite or necessary to salvation.

In Anglican theology, tradition and reason are important. They can enlighten and clarify, but they cannot contradict what is found in Holy Scripture.

Configured with you in mind

The Anglican Portfolio package was configured based on the understanding that Anglicans have taken a varied approach to studying Scripture. Evangelical Anglicans tend to study Scripture from a different perspective than more liberal Anglicans. Both liberal and evangelical Anglicans use different approaches to Scripture than Anglo-Catholics. At the same time, there is a lot of overlap between the three. The Anglican Portfolio package acknowledges that overlap and balances the three emphases, enabling a broad and deep study of the text for all Anglicans.

Anglican Portfolio is packed with resources for studying the Scripture. In addition to the powerful features and tools included in Anglican Diamond, Portfolio has new commentaries, language and exegetical resources, and Bible background reference works that make the Logos 6 Scripture studies tools even more powerful. Here are a few highlights:

  • Eerdmans Critical Commentary Series (8 vols.)
  • Eerdmans New Testament Commentary Series (4 vols.)
  • Ellicott’s Commentaries on St. Paul’s Epistles (6 vols.)
  • International Critical Commentary (61 vols.)
  • Anchor-Yale Bible Dictionary (6 vols.)
  • Romans through History and Culture Series (5 vols.)
  • Moulton-Howard-Turner Greek Grammar Collection (5 vols.)
  • Ugaritic Library (12 vols.)

These resources will add value and functionality to your Passage and Exegetical Guides by giving you a broader range of information and opinion on particular passages. While not all the content is specifically from writers within the Anglican Church, each resource has been hand selected by an expert in the Anglican tradition to make sure that the material is relevant to those within the Anglican Church.
