The underpinnings of our legal system, which once recognized objective points of reference in the law of God and absolute ethics, have seriously eroded. As H. Wayne House observes in the introduction to this volume, “The law has become little more than the subjective dictates of legislators and judges captured by the philosophy of relativism.” The Christian principles upon which American government was built are considered by many to be merely historical relics rather than dynamic realities. The truths of the Christian faith, however, provide a better foundation for a just society than the shifting sands of contemporary relativism and post-modernism. The contributors to this volume examine Christianity's rich contribution to American law, explore ways in which Christians can relate to current laws, and propose strategies whereby Christians may influence future laws. They especially focus on ways that Christians can work within the legal community to promote better laws and ensure equal opportunity for the Christian faith in public forum. Some of the chapters included are: • Harold O.J. Brown, “Civil Authority and the Bible” • Arthur F. Glasser, “Missions and Civil Law” • Carl F. H. Henry, “A Summary Statement of the Consultation on Theology and Civil Law” • R.C. Sproul, “The Biblical View of Submission to Constituted Authority” About the Author H.
