Overview

To be a Christian is to be one who believes. But believes in what? In an age of cafeteria-style religion—a little bit of this, a little bit of that—believers new and old may be overlooking the basic tenets of faith in favor of modern trends that have no biblical basis. For millennia, Christians have affirmed the Apostles’ Creed because it summarizes the tenets of Christian belief, boldly declaring that there is uncompromising truth that is foundational to life. In this book, renowned theologian R. C. Sproul presents the creed statement by statement, unpacking what it means to believe in God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, and what Christians believe about the church, salvation, and eternal life. What We Believe is an updated version of what was previously titled Renewing Your Mind.

Top Highlights

“The Bible doesn’t accept excuses for sin. Sinful human beings have no more place in the purity of heaven and the perfect holiness of God than do spiders on the rug of a five-star hotel.” (Page 116)

“These are the three dimensions to renewing your mind through faith: (1) faith has an intellectual dimension; (2) faith touches the human will profoundly; (3) faith is intimately bound to our emotions.” (Page 16)

“Biblical Christianity knows nothing of blind leaps. Blindness, in biblical categories, marks the unbelieving mind. Faith in the New Testament sense begins as a thinking response to a divine summons and activity.” (Page 16)

“It is almost as if Paul had time-warped to the faith and morality of our society when he wrote Romans 1:22–24:” (Page 15)

“Regeneration does not automatically convey sinlessness” (Page 176)
