At the end of 1873, Viktor Rydberg made a journey to Paris and Italy, which inspired him to write a series of beautiful sketches, among them the Roman Legends about the Apostles Paul and Peter. Some of these Legends of the Church were still readable, especially those which concern the life and death of the great Apostles.
