This short speech describes the conviction of a man who was an academic thoroughbred and an expert in philosophy both ancient and modern. His testimony is clear: when he met Jesus, the pursuit of Truth had finally met its goal. the Bible and real communication with the Lord Jesus are the solution to the problems that philosophy poses. Note: "Philosophy" for Prince would mean something comparable to "A total system of thought that aims to describe truth by human reason alone." This is not an assault on logical rigor - something that Prince held to and affirmed throughout his life. Modern Christian apologists like to use the term "philosophical" as a synonym for "rational, logical thought that is, in some way, systematic in its approach." The Bible, nor Prince for that matter, deride this. Rather, the nature of God is such that Self-revelation is the only means by which we can actually know Him. Logical, rational inquiry ought to get us to the point of knowing the attributes of God (see Romans 1), but only a Self-revelation of God can get us to actually knowing Him (see John 1). This is Prince's main emphasis - to know Jesus is to know the truth and thus -- by way of knowing the Truth personally -- to know Jesus is also to put to rest the endless pursuits of the philosopher's racing mind. As a long time student of Prince's work, as a student of logic, and - most of all - as a Lover of the Word of Truth, I can say that these words do a lot to bringing clarity to my ministry for Jesus Christ and His Body. Caution: you need to read this slowly, recognizing that Prince's expertise was in definitions. So, while he purposefully aimed to speak in simple, plain terms, he did not use his terms rashly. The careful reader and student will be profited from this pithy work.
