Overview

In Manifested in the Flesh, author Joel McDurmon illustrates the uniqueness, richness, and importance of the Christian doctrine of the Incarnation of Christ. Drawing from Scripture, the Early Church Fathers, ancient history, and the most recent of New Testament scholarship, this timely and lively work presents the robust truth of Christ and exposes the lies of modern pagans, atheists, and New-Age attacks on the gospel.

Manifested in the Flesh brings diverse areas of New Testament scholarship into a readable and unified witness to the truth, and dismantles recent works of unbelief and skepticism with the force of credible and thorough scholarship. At once a viable apologetic, an intense Bible study, a survey of ancient history, and a review of vital theology, Manifested in the Flesh gives the reader an understanding of Christian truth. This volume is remarkable in both its breadth and depth of scholarship, and is written in a stimulating and refreshing style.

By weaving apologetics, biblical study, historical study, and theology together, McDurmon has created a work of Christian worldview for pastor, teacher, parent, and student alike. No Christian seeking to understand the nature of our Lord and the great battles that both the early and modern Church have fought—and continue to fight—over the historical Jesus, can afford to skip this book.

Since Manifested in the Flesh is fully integrated with Logos, Scripture passages are linked to your favorite translation for quick reference and to your Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts for original-language study! You can also read this volume along with your Bible dictionaries, encyclopedias, and the wealth of other Bible study tools in your digital library.

Top Highlights

“My Introduction first pulls the plug on the pagan worldview: The attacks of the atheists and the mystics all follow the same lie that the serpent told Eve in the garden. The lure of satanic religions is always the promise of enlightenment apart from God’s Word, the denial of God’s power in history, and the promise of divinization for man. If we understand this as we come to the recent attacks on the Gospel, as well as the ancient versions of ‘mystery religions’ to which modern critics appeal, we will see the satanic criteria clearly as the power source for all of them.” (Page xvi)

“The Incarnation of Jesus Christ is the most important event of history” (Page 113)

“This legacy of assuming that man can submit God’s Word for testing and analysis is the basis of man’s fall, the original sin, and the continuing force behind all pagan religion.” (Page 2)

“They treated the mystery religions as any other idolatry and relied solely on the Old and New Testaments for their understanding of Jesus Christ.” (Page xvii)

“Instead, you have to get behind the source of their power: pull the plug and demolish the framework” (Page xvi)
