Theodore Beza (1519–1605) was a French Protestant theologian and scholar who played an important role in the early Reformation. A disciple of John Calvin, he lived most of his life in Switzerland.
Beza earned his law degree from the University of Orleans in 1539. The academy in Geneva was organized in 1558—Beza served there as a Greek instructor and, later, as the pastor of a city church. Beza produced numerous secular and historical studies, including a biography of John Calvin called Memoirs of the Life and Writings of John Calvin, which is included in both the Calvin 500 Collection (108 vols.) and the John Calvin Biography Collection (10 vols.).
