Overview

For nearly 30 years, the Journal of Biblical Counseling (previously the Journal of Pastoral Practice) of CCEF (the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation) has provided a forum for biblical counseling’s development and application. The journal’s mission is to develop clear thinking and effective practice in biblical counseling through articles that faithfully bring the God of truth, mercy, and power to the issues faced by ministries of counseling and discipleship.

Top Highlights

“When people believe that anger is a pressurized substance, something inside, not something they do, the idea points to a solution other than repentance.” (Page 12)

“Every step in the world’s therapeutic formula is bent to one end: keeping man on the throne of pride. This therapeutic counterfeit justifies anger as neutral, blames God for being bad, ventilates hostility, and finally ‘forgives’ the great Offender.” (Page 15)

“Second, anger always entails a judge, because they are the ones who make judgments.” (Page 16)

“Second, does God let us down when we suffer? Nowhere in the Bible do we find a shred of evidence that God ever truly betrays us. The Bible discusses suffering constantly, but it always shows us that any apparent ‘betrayal’ by God must be seen in the context of His larger purposes.” (Page 14)

“And what she actually needed was the one thing she never craved—God. If you really want to understand what is important to a person, find out where he feels needy. Values become desires, desires become demands, and demands get expressed in counseling as ‘needs.’” (Page 8)
