Overview
Former lawyer B. F. Fuller lays out a careful history of Baptists in the Lone Star State in this comprehensive text. Fuller writes that “the work is intended to be mainly historical, but is interwoven to some extent with expositions of prominent Baptist principles.” He moves from general questions of the nature, structure, and function of the church, to Baptists generally, to the history of Baptists in Texas. Fuller chronologically discusses the introduction and growth of Baptist churches and organizations in Texas through major events such as the Declaration of Texas Independence, the founding of Baylor University, the Civil War, and much more. This carefully-researched work provides valuable record of Baptist churches, leaders, general assemblies, missionary bodies, educational enterprises, and newspapers through the end of the twentieth century.
