Overview
Originally written in the mid-1600s by Danish Lutheran theologian Peder Naskov, The Articles of Faith of the Holy Evangelical Church contains a series of 40 sermons written to build up Lutheran orthodoxy in Denmark—the heartland of Lutheranism between Scandinavia and northern Germany. These sermons served both to unify Lutherans across Denmark after the devastation of the Thirty Years’ War as well as to defy the growing influence of the followers of Calvin and Zwingli in Lutheran regions.
