The Common Service contains an order of public worship and extensive tables for the festivals of the church, the epistle and gospel readings, the orders of morning and evening services, and all of the liturgical elements of the service, from the collect to the introit to the prayers of the faithful and the responsories. This volume answered the long-felt desire for those adhering to the Augsburg Confession to unify their practices in worship, especially during the revivals in the church in the nineteenth century.
