Founded in 1919, the Bulletin of the American Schools of Oriental Research (BASOR) is an interdisciplinary English-language journal published by the American Schools of Oriental Research (ASOR). BASOR includes technical articles covering the Near East and eastern Mediterranean world from the Paleolithic period through Islamic times. The journal’s principal subject areas include art and archaeology, history, anthropology, bioarchaeology and archaeozoology, archaeometry, geography, philology and epigraphy, and literature. BASOR has a rich history of reporting on original scholarship and discussing problems raised through excavations and other forms of research. The journal publishes preliminary reports of ASOR-affiliated projects, articles analyzing the current state of scholarship in each of these fields, book reviews, and review articles. BASOR also publishes occasional theme issues relating to topics of broad scholarly interest.
