Overview

This Bible Dictionary presents in a clear, concise way all Biblical and pertinent extra-Biblical information available concerning individuals, countries, places, objects, and concepts mentioned in the Bible, and to convey the meaning of the underlying Hebrew, Aramaic, or Greek terms. It also includes a few articles on non-Biblical subjects because frequent references are made to such subjects as the Amarna Letters and the Moabite Stone. Articles are also included on the Bible, writing, writing materials, the Apocrypha, and other related subjects. The illustrations were chosen to acquaint the reader with the topography of the Bible lands, with Biblical sites, with archeological objects that illustrate events recorded in the Bible, and with the appearance of ancient objects, such as tools, weapons, or musical instruments. The dictionary was originally copyrighted in 1960 and updated in 1978 (c. 1979) with more than 3,300 corrections, changes, and additions. Twenty-seven new articles were added and others were greatly expended The full-color end sheet is a wall painting showing the arrival of a group of Palestinians in Egypt.
