Author Bios

W. A. Criswell

W. A. Criswell (December 19, 1909–January 10, 2002) was an author, a pastor, and the president of the Southern Baptist Convention for two years. He received his B.A. from Baylor University, and his Th.M. and Ph.D. degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. 

In 1944, Dr. Criswell became the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Dallas, where he preached more than five thousand sermons and grew the church to over 26,000 members. 

Dr. Criswell published 54 books and was awarded eight honorary doctorates. He also served as the editor to the Believer’s Study Bible.

Paige Patterson

Paige L. Patterson (born 1942) is the eighth President of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a leader of the Conservative Resurgence of the Southern Baptist Convention in the 1990’s. A graduate of Hardin-Simmons University, Patterson received Th.M. and Ph.D. degrees in theology at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was twice elected president of the Southern Baptist Convention, serving Southern Baptists in that role from 1998-2000.

Daniel L. Akin

Daniel "Danny" L. Akin (MDiv, PhD) is the president and professor of preaching and theology at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is most recognized for his expository preaching and focus on the Great Commission. Akin has authored numerous books, including God on Sex and the NAC commentary on 1,2,3 John.
