Top Highlights

“No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. And just to reinforce those words, God reminded Joshua of everything his heavenly hand had accomplished through Moses. ‘The secret of Moses’ success had been God’s presence with him. It would be the secret of Joshua’s success also, and it continues to be the secret of success for the church’” (Page 11)

“One final act of consecration and commitment before the conquest. Joshua needed to worship before warring. To bow before battling. To submit before serving.” (Page 89)

“Surely one of the greatest verses in the Bible, these words echo through the heart of anyone who has ever tried to serve the Lord. God did not tell Joshua that he might be terrified and discouraged some day. The structure of the text leads us to conclude that those words described Joshua’s current state of mind. Fear and discouragement go with the territory in any kind of ministry. The only antidote is a constant awareness of the presence of the Lord.” (Page 15)

“Joshua also realized that perhaps God was giving the guilty an opportunity to repent. As the people consecrated themselves, or even as lots were being cast, the guilty could confess and plead for forgiveness. But no one knocked on Joshua’s door that night or the next day.” (Page 122)

“Allotment of the land would increase Israel’s commitment to involve and invest themselves in completing the conquest.” (Page 203)
